Role: Early Years Tutor, with the potential for additional specialist instrumental/vocal teaching and leading our primary choirs
(Spring 2025)
We’re seeking a talented, dynamic, flexible musician to teach on our early years programme, MUSIC BOX. There is also potential for teaching a range of instrumental, vocal or compositional specialisms, including leading our primary choirs.
Young Music Makers is a non-profit music centre for the whole family which has been at the heart of music-making in North London for over 50 years. We are strong advocates for generic excellence, but over and above that, are committed to the idea that simply having music as part of your life promotes personal and community well-being. We believe in teaching from a place of inspiration, empowering musicians to develop creative skills alongside generic skills, and encouraging self-enquiry and lifelong learning. You would be joining a team of stellar musicians in a welcoming, supportive environment where there are opportunities to lead and initiate ensembles and connect your artistic practice to teaching.
Required:
- Enthusiasm for, and dedication to, music education
- A commitment to delivering inclusive music education
- A positive, pragmatic and flexible attitude
- Compositional skills
- Music Leading skills
- Music Workshop skills
Ideal:
- Experience of ensemble-leading
- Experience with early years/beginner teaching
- Experience with adult students
- Experience of teaching both in-person and remotely
- Experience in instrumental/vocal teaching through to grade 8 and beyond in a similar setting
- Experience as a choir leader
The candidate will need to possess an enhanced DBS certificate (paper or update service) valid within 3 years upon appointment.
- Fees: £39.40 per hour - Groups over 10+ participants, £34.65 per hour - Groups 4-9 participants, £32.55 per hour - Individual lessons

Role: Drum Kit tutor
(Spring 2025)
We’re seeking a talented, creative and dynamic teacher of Drum Kit to teach a range of styles and grooves, including Jazz, World, Rock and Pop, Funk and Soul. Grounding our students in rudiments and the ability/experience in teaching exams is also important.

Role: Violin Tutor
(Spring 2025)
We’re seeking a talented and dynamic Violin Tutor who can inspire and guide their pupils towards a range of string pathways at Young Music Makers and teach graded exams where required. There is an opportunity to lead our Junior String Group, so experience in leading ensembles would be advantageous.
