Recorder & Classical Guitar Concert
From beginner to grade 8 standard, the Recorder and Classical Guitar Concert on 21st January, 2017 was a unique opportunity for our students to show off their dedication and hard work over the last few months.
Opening the concert was one our most senior students, Leon, who played Romanze by Paganini. He was confidently followed by the Junior Guitar Ensemble (pictured above) and wonderful solo performances by Ariane and Kenan.
Our two youngest recorder ensembles played as confidently as any professional musician could hope for. Led by Hollie Macdonald, the students in Beginner Recorder, who have only been learning for one term, were followed by three members of Recorder 1 who performed a three-part round of Frere Jacques.
YMM's Senior Recorder Duo, who recently played at the 150th anniversary of Highgate Library, were joined by two younger students from Recorder Ensemble to perform Sammartini's Sonata VI in D Minor. They were accompanied on viola da gamba by recorder and early music specialist, Layil Barr.
There were several extremely accomplished performances on solo guitar from Sara, Jack, Honor and Victoria who all have individual lessons at YMM. These were interspersed with a jaunty 'In the Mood' from Recorder 2 and an excellent set of pieces from Recorder Ensemble, including two movements from Telemann's Suite in A Minor.
The final item of the concert was two movements from Sammartini's Concerto for Recorder, performed magnificently by Lili. She was accompanied by Layil on the viola da gamba and two members of the YMM Adult Recorder Ensemble.
Congratulations to all the performers and huge thanks to our tutors Hollie, Layil, Chris, Andrea and Jon for preparing our students.
